This decree ratifies the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea concerning the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction. Adopted in New York on 19 June 2023, the Agreement is pivotal for implementing Sustainable Development Goal 14, which focuses on conserving and sustainably using the oceans. Portugal, with its extensive maritime area, recognizes the importance of this Agreement for global ocean governance and biodiversity protection.
